Pentaerythritoll, also known as D-mannitol, is an organic compound with the chemical formula C5H12O4. It is a polyol compound, appearing as a white crystalline powder, flammable, and readily esterified by common organic acids. Mannitol is extensively used in the paint industry for producing alkyd resins, as well as in the synthesis of high-grade lubricants, plasticizers, surfactants, and in pharmaceuticals, explosives, and more.
